Metacognition

Metacognition:

  * thinking about your own learning process: strategies reasoning.
 Like visual org, pair work, underlying, memories, online practice, dictionary. (This is what teacher shows)

* Awareness___ improving   -concentration

                                     -Time management

                                    - Task achievement
  * Autonomy
  * Psycholinguistic

3 stages of Metacognition
·        Planning
·        Monitoring -------strategies
·        Evaluating ---------new plan is working o not

Metacognition
Brainstorm possible ways to foster Metacognition
- Explain the objectives to the students, so they will know where go in terms in goal.
- Connect their prior knowledge with the new ones.
- Explain them what is going to be evaluating in a test, for example.
- And monitor them constantly, to know if they achieve the objectives proposed before.  Also let them to evaluate their own progress in terms they will know what are their weakness and strengths.
4 stages of critical Thinking Development are:

1.                 REALISTIC
2.                 ABSOLUTIST
3.                 MULTIPLIST
4.                 EVALUATIVIST

Automaticity and Cognitive Load
*What is Automaticity?
  Automaticity is the ability to develop actions or do something without any mental effort.
*How we do develop automaticity?
First, when we learn something that information is has to be in use. We need to keep working with that knowledge through repetition and practice.

*Create an example of how teachers can change the amount of “extraneous cognitive load” on an assignment?

Try to find different ways to present a material.

*When have you felt that you had a "full" cognitive load?

 When we read a book and then we listen a presentation.

Catedra 1, Lesson Plan

This is my Lesson Plan, which I have to modify some things.
The most difficult was to be aware of the real time in the class and the amount of activities that you can create.

Coursebook

Textbook reflection

Name of the book: Get set for English

Year: 2004

Grade: 6

Textbook reflection

The objectives in the book are explicitly laid out in an introduction. Also you can see the names of the units and what the students are going to see. With detail about structures and expressions required in each unit. Besides in each activity have different icons, with the name and an image, for example, for listen activity has an image of headphones. In terms of topics, the text book has very interesting units. Each unit has a presentation of the topic for example a group work, a reading, a listening, a practice part. That means the course book has a practice of the four skills. Some activities show the kind of activity to do through an acronym DIY (do it yourself, and at the end of each unit has a let´s check the progress. In that at the end you can find a self evaluation, were students have to tick what they can do and with what grade of difficulty.
The pages are colorful, has a simple and good vocabulary for that grade. You can note it that the instructions are easy and clear. It uses a lot of images with the name on it, so the students can associated the name with the picture. Also you can find plenty of authentic language and good explanations, about the topics and the activities.  It is not a heavy text and at the end has a dominoes were the students can cut it and play. These dominoes have imagines with the vocabulary of the action I am not sure if with the book learners are encourage to develop their own learning strategies.
